About Furniture Makers' Hall

Furniture Makers' Hall in the City of London is perfect for private meetings or small conferences, weddings or corporate entertainment.

The Sustainability Award is made each year to recognise improvements in furniture manufacturing sustainability in its widest sense, looking at all aspects of how a business is operated – waste and energy management, design, process and product improvements, packaging, transportation, procurement, end of life management, client relationships, supplier management, employee engagement and corporate social responsibility.

What does the award represent?

The Furniture Makers’ Company Sustainability Award is based on the foundation provided by the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme, FISP, administered by the Furniture Industry Research Association, FIRA, with a rigorous audit of members’ activities. All FISP Full Members who manufacture in Great Britain are eligible to apply.

FISP certified firms are invited to submit case studies for consideration by a panel of judges who will select the manufacturer deemed to have made the best contribution to sustainable manufacturing in the previous year. The size of the business concerned will be taken into account so that the relative importance of their progress can be measured to equalise opportunities.

Sustainability is also one of the criteria used when assessing eligibility for the ultimate select award of The Furniture Makers’ Company Manufacturing Guild Mark, limited to the top 50 British furniture manufacturers, and FISP certified firms are encouraged to apply for this as well. Details can be found on our website furnituremakers.org.uk.

Assessment procedure

The panel of judges will consider all the submissions at a meeting to be held after the closing date for entries of 27 February 2015 and a shortlist will then be drawn up. Companies which are shortlisted will be invited to make a brief presentation of their application to the judges and to answer any questions at a meeting to be held at Furniture Makers’ Hall on 26 March 2015.

Publicity

The winner and shortlisted firms will be permitted to use The Furniture Makers’ Company logo on their own websites and publicity where the 2015 Sustainability Award is described or mentioned.
The Furniture Makers’ Company will raise public and trade awareness of the award via a PR campaign about the winner, the shortlisted candidates, and their sustainability programmes.
