About Andrew
Andrew graduated from the University of Reading and trained in the public sector before joining private practice over 30 years ago. Since then Andrew has acted as a building surveyor advising a mixed of commercial and residential clients and carrying a wide range of instructions.
As a result Andrew has considerable experience dealing with corporate and institutional clients as well as trading companies and private firms and individuals.
Highlights of Andrew’s career include:
Advising a pension fund on the purchase of a portfolio of student accommodation let on institutional leases to various universities which included carrying out due diligence of the construction of the buildings and compliance with statutory regulations.
Building survey and due diligence of the purchase of a newly constructed multi-storey office building by an Inner London local authority which identified significant cladding defects. The developer carried out major remedial work which were monitored by Andrew.
Acting for retail and restaurant chains advising on dilapidations issues for existing premises and carrying out pre-acquisition surveys for new premises.
Undertaking party wall appointment, acting as Building Owners Surveyor for a major commercial and industrial development in Hackney East London.
Acted as an Expert Witness for the building owner in connection with an office building in North London, firstly advising and giving evidence in High Court to prevent the termination of the lease of the building; secondly executing an Order of the Court and remedy the defects with the building; and finally advising and assisting in mediation resulting in the client succeeding in a negligence claim against previous surveyors.
Project management of internal refurbishment/refit with project value of circa £2.5million of over 900 bedrooms and communal facilities spread over three sites of student accommodation in Birmingham and carried out within 12 weeks.
Project management and cost control of the redesign and reconfiguration and total refurbishment of a substantial house in Kensington London with a project value circa £4million
Acting as Contract Administrator for mansion blocks of residential flats in Central London, diagnosing defects, preparing specifications and monitoring major works including replacement roofs and external repairs and redecorations.
In summary Andrew’ expertise and experience as a Chartered Building Surveyor is both wide ranging and in depth.
Personal Interests
Interests: Andrew’s interests are wide ranging and include arts and attending cultural events, theatre, eating out and spending time with family and friends and relaxing with a good bottle of wine or a malt Scotch.
Outside of work Andrew is also actively involved with organisations in the charitable sector within the Jewish community.
